US Senate votes to restrain Trump from attacking Iran

By

Washington: The US Senate voted on Thursday to ban President Donald Trump from attacking Iran, and eight Republican members urged his leaders to agree.

The resolution, which requires Trump to request explicit permission from Congress before further hostilities with Iran, was adopted in a similar form in the Democratic-led House of Representatives.

But after passing the House of Representatives, Trump faces almost certainly a veto.

The resolution adopted 55-45 and eight Republicans joined the Democratic Party. The resolution requires the president to go to the congress to explicitly approve the attack on Iran, with the exception of defending against “imminent” threats.
