US marks record 2,108 coronavirus deaths in 24 hours: Johns Hopkins

Washington: According to statistics from Johns Hopkins University, the United States became the first country to report more than 2,000 coronavirus deaths on a day on Friday, with 2,108 deaths in the past 24 hours.

The United States has now recorded 18,586 deaths, and it is close to the number that killed 18,849 people in Italy, the largest number of deaths in the global pandemic to date.

There are also nearly 500,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the United States. As of 8:30 pm (0030 GMT Saturday), there were 496,535 cases, an increase of 35,098 cases in the past 24 hours.
