UN chief will work with the new Lebanon government on reforms

Beirut: United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres welcomed the establishment of a new Lebanese government on Tuesday and will work with the new prime minister to support reforms in debt-affected countries to respond to the economic crisis in an emergency.

A Guterres spokesperson said in a statement that the United Nations is committed to supporting “Lebanon to strengthen its sovereignty, stability and political independence.”

Lebanon has formed a new government under Prime Minister Hassan Diab following a Shiite Hezbollah movement and the dispute of its allies over a portfolio of weeks.
