Dubai: United Arab Emirates Foreign Minister Anwar Gargash said on Monday that the UAE has reached an agreement to normalize relations with Israel and that this is not a “sovereign decision” against Iran.
The United Arab Emirates convened a high commissioner at the Iranian embassy in Abu Dhabi on Sunday, citing a threat to a peace deal with Israel.
Officials in the country accepted the “rigorously worded memorandum” of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani’s impending statement on the UAE-Israel agreement to normalize relations.
The UAE State Department stated that Rouhani’s statement was echoed by Iranian officials and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and that such comments were “unacceptable and provocative.”
The ministry added that these statements will have serious implications for the security and stability of the Arabian Gulf.
