The United Nations opposes the death penalty that former President Pervez Musharraf was sentenced in absentia for treason.

A spokesperson for the United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, spoke at a press conference at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

Spokesman Stephane Dujarric said he understood that the case was being appealed, but the United Nations had long been against the death penalty. He added: “The UN is opposed to the death penalty.”
