Tahir Ashrafi condemns US report on religious freedom in Pakistan

Islamabad: Special Representative of the Prime Minister on Religious Harmony Maulana Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi on Friday strongly condemned the statement of the US Secretary of State regarding religious freedom in Pakistan.

He said at a press conference in Islamabad on Friday that Pakistan is a country of all religions, and added that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in contact with the U.S. Religious Freedom Commission in this regard and hoped that the accusation would be dropped soon.

Ashrafi went on to say that all scholars rejected American reports on religious freedom in Pakistan, adding that the American Committee for Religious Freedom sees nothing in India.

He further said that no one in India can resist extremist RSS. Muslims, Sikhs and Christian minorities are not safe there, but the situation in Pakistan is completely different.

The Special Representative said that if Rimsha Masih is safe in the country, then there is evidence that Pakistan knows how to protect minorities. The U.S. Committee and the State Department should consider their claims.

He said: “As a representative of the Prime Minister, I invite the American Committee to sit with us. We will prove that the report of the American Committee is wrong after the meeting.”

Tahir Ashrafi said that religious harmony will be included in the curriculum.
