DAMASCUS: The Syrian state news agency SANA said that the Syrian air defense forces intercepted Israeli missiles in Damascus on Sunday.
Since the outbreak of the Syrian civil war in 2011, Israel has frequently conducted raids in Syria, mainly targeting Iranian and Lebanese Hezbollah forces and government forces.
Sana’s report stated: “The Israeli enemy launched an air strike against some targets in the Damascus area in the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan at 10:16 this evening (2016 GMT).
The source added: “Our air defense forces faced the missiles and shot down most of them.”
There are no reports of casualties.
The Israeli army said it did not comment on foreign media reports.
Kan of Israel’s National Radio reported that the leaders of Israeli security agencies met on Sunday night to discuss Iran’s attack on an Israeli-owned vessel in the Gulf of Oman this week.
