After the cabinet approved in principle to impose strict restrictions on sugar merchants in Punjab, the Punjab Food Department has issued an official notice.
According to the notification issued under Sugar Supply Chain Management Order 2021, the Cane Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner will have full authority to take action and sell in case of sugar shortage.
The notice stated that if the sugar stock is reduced, the deputy director must be notified. According to the new law, no distributor or wholesaler can buy sugar without registration.
Warehouses of sugar mills and dealers will be registered and only a registered dealer would be able to buy and sell sugar.
In addition, no factory can sell sugar to unregistered distributors, wholesalers and brokers. The entire system of sugar trading can now be supervised.
