Karachi: Sindh’s Minister of Information and local agency King Said Nasir Hussein and Minister of Energy Ya Ahmed Sheikh said on Friday that a project the provincial government is working on generates electricity from waste.
A meeting was held under the joint chairmanship of Sindh Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah and Energy Minister Imtiaz Ahmed Sheikh to make the waste power project in Karachi viable.
The meeting was given detailed briefing that 8000 tons of garbage is generated daily in Karachi which can generate up to 200 MW of electricity.
Nasir Hussain Shah and Imtiaz Ahmed Sheikh said that Karachi s waste could be disposed of in an environmental friendly manner and electricity could also be generated from it.
They said that the pace of work on power generation waste projects will be accelerated, and the final policy report will be submitted to Sindh Chief Minister Said Murad Ali Shah.
A committee led by the secretary of the local government has also constituted a policy report.
