Islamabad: Internal Affairs and Accountability Prime Minister Shahzad Akbar (Shahzad Akbar) announced on Monday that the Broadsheet document will be released on the instructions of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
The consultant held a press conference in Islamabad and emphasized that accountability is impossible without transparency. The Prime Minister has given instructions on Broadsheet, he said, adding that some lawyers contacted them to make the document public, and Pakistan received Broadsheet’s e-mail.
Shahzad Akbar said, “Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif went abroad in 2000 after making a deal with erstwhile president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf. Pakistan suffered the consequences of this NRO in the form of fine. The country is still being affected by the mistakes that former rulers made in the past.
“The contract between the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and Broadsheet was signed in June, 2000 and Nawaz Sharif went abroad in December, 2000 after deal with Pervez Musharraf.
“The anti-corruption watchdog terminated the contract in 2003 and paid $1.5 million after reaching a settlement on May 20, 2008. An appeal was filed in the High Court in July 2019, but the decision was in Broadsheet’s favor.”
