Islamabad: Today (Monday) is the last day for submission of nomination documents for the 2021 Senate elections to be held on March 3.
According to detailed information, the names of the nominated candidates will be announced on February 14, and the subsequent review process will be from February 15 to February 16.
February 17 and February 18 have been given as the dates for filing appeals against the acceptance or rejection of the nominations. The appeals will be disposed of by the tribunal on February 19 and February 20.
On February 21, a revised list of candidates will be published with February 22 as the last date for withdrawing the candidature.
Meanwhile, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Sunday said that at least 100 candidates submitted their nomination papers so far with Returning Officers (ROs) for contesting election on Senate vacant seats to be held on March 3.
Officials said that 17 candidates submitted nomination documents from Punjab, 22 from Sindh, 30 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 25 from Balochistan and 6 from Islamabad.
As many as 23 nomination documents have been submitted for female seats, 8 nominations have been submitted for non-Muslim seats, 18 nominations have been submitted for technical seats and Ulema seats, and 18 nominations have been submitted for ordinary seats.
He said that the European Communist Party has appointed five election directors in Islamabad and four provinces, and candidates can submit nomination documents to the election director.
He said that voting will be held on March 3 on 48 seats, two in Islamabad, 11 in Punjab and Sindh, and 12 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Bal Luchi province will be vacant after expiration.
He said that voting will be held between 0900 hours and 1700 hours at the Parliament Buildings in Islamabad and the Provincial Assembly Buildings in Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Baluchistan at the same time.
A public notice has already been issued by returning officers for inviting nomination papers. The nominated candidates will be announced on February 16, while the date for scrutiny of nomination papers will be February 17 to February 18. The last dates for filing of appeals against acceptance or rejection of nominations will be February 20 while the dates for disposal of appeals by the Tribunals will be February 23.
The revised list of candidates was released on February 24, and the candidacy was cancelled on February 25.
