Islamabad: The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) yesterday convened the president of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the mayor of Islamabad during a lawsuit regarding increased environmental pollution in the I-9 industrial zone.
The Supreme Court also instructed officials to present a “pollution-free” roadmap for Islamabad.
Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmad said that Islamabad residents fell ill from the marble industry.
The judge said: “The CDA has not followed the order of the Supreme Court … The CDA does not know what it is about.”
The court warned: “According to a court order, the CDA can be sealed and its employees fired.”
The court ordered the president of the CDA, the mayor of the capital and the director general of the Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency to jointly develop a plan to limit environmental pollution.
