The 34-year-old Rajput was found dead in his apartment in Mumbai in June, sparking a nationwide enthusiasm for TV news channels, speculating that Chakraborty drove to kill himself with marijuana and black magic .

The suicide of Rajput is a highly sought-after star that initially sparked a debate about mental health in India’s multi-billion dollar film industry.

But Rajput’s family disputed reports that he was suffering from depression and accused the 28-year-old Chakraborty of stealing his money and harassing him. She strongly denied these allegations.

Her lawyer Satish Maneshinde said that on Wednesday, a Mumbai court ordered the actress to be released on bail, calling it a victory for “truth and justice.”

“The arrest and custody of Rhea was totally unwarranted and beyond the reach of law,” he said in a statement.

Her brother Showik was also arrested last month and is still in custody.

Chakraborty and her family have been hounded by Indian media who have spent months obsessing over the case, with some celebrities including actresses Vidya Balan and Sonam Kapoor accusing TV channels of carrying out a “witch hunt” against her.

Since August, the Central Bureau of Investigation, the country’s highest anti-crime agency, has been investigating Rajput’s death, while the Narcotics Control Board has been investigating his cannabis consumption.

“After we did the preparation, in my head I was him and everything that was happening was actually affecting me,” he said.
