Islamabad: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmoud Qureshi said on Monday that Pakistan will continue to play a constructive role in the success of Afghanistan’s internal peace negotiations.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Pakistan-Afghanistan bilateral dialogue in Islamabad on Monday, he said that Pakistan is now considered part of the solution worldwide, not part of the problem. He said that there is no military solution to the conflict in Afghanistan.
He said that a peaceful and stable Afghanistan is in the interests of Pakistan and the entire region.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs stated that Pakistan played a vital role in the peace agreement reached between the United States and the Taliban in Doha, and that negotiations within Afghanistan will also lead to sustainable peace.
The Foreign Minister expressed concern about violence in Afghanistan, saying that reducing violence leading to a ceasefire is a necessary condition for moving forward. He emphasized that both the Afghan government and the Taliban must show flexibility to reach a settlement.
He expressed concern about the remarks made by the Vice President of Afghanistan and the National Security Adviser against Pakistan. He said this game of finger-pointing must end because it will not help. He said Pakistan cannot be held responsible for all diseases in Afghanistan.
He said that there are spoilers inside and outside Afghanistan, and both sides should fully understand its evil schemes.
Shah Mahmoud Qureshi said that Pakistan has made a very clear non-interference decision and it has no preference in Afghanistan. He said that we have invited all ethnic groups in Afghanistan to come to Pakistan to discuss issues of peace and stability.
The Foreign Minister said that Pakistan is doing everything possible to manage the border with Afghanistan. However, he said that the increased footprint of the Islamic State in Afghanistan is worrying.
