Beijing: Wang Yi, a senior Chinese diplomat, said on Monday that if China and the United States can repair their damaged bilateral relations, they can work together on issues such as climate change and the coronavirus pandemic.

Chinese State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Jianzhou said that after relations between the two countries fell to their lowest point in decades under the leadership of former President Donald Trump, Beijing is ready to resume constructive dialogue with Washington.

Wang called on Washington to remove tariffs on Chinese goods and abandon what he said was an irrational suppression of the Chinese tech sector, steps he said would create the “necessary conditions” for cooperation.

At a forum sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, before Wang Jianzhou’s speech, officials played the scene of “Ping Pong Diplomacy” in 1972, when the exchange of table tennis players was the visit of then US President Richard Nixon to China Clear the way.
