President Alvi approves Justice Gulzar Ahmed’s appointment as new CJP


ISLAMABAD: President Arif Alvi on Wednesday gave the approval for the appointment of Justice Gulzar Ahmed as the new chief justice of Pakistan.

The Ministry of Justice and Justice issued a notification after obtaining the presidential approval. After Judge Asif Saeed Khosa resigned, Judge Gulzar will take office on December 21.

Justice Gulzar becomes the 27th judge of Pakistan. He retires on 1 February 2022. Justice Gulzar was born in 1957 in Karachi. After studying law, he started practicing at the Sindh High Court (SHC) in 1986. He became a defender of the Supreme Court in 1988 and later a judge. The Sindh High Court (SHC) was established in 1992.

Justice Gurzal has been a judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan since 16 November 2011. He has been a judge in various well-known cases.

Judge Gulzar was also part of a bank that disqualified former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the Panama Papers case.
