KHUSHAB: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Moazzam Sher Kallu has won the PP-84 Khushab by-election with a significant margin as he retained the seat that was vacated after the death of party lawmaker Malik Muhammad Waris Kallo in March.
According to an unofficial and unconfirmed count that concluded early Thursday morning, Moazzam Sher Kallu came out on top with 73,081 votes, while Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Ali Hussain Baloch came second place, with 62,903 votes. Kallu’s margin of victory is 10,178 votes.
The poll was held in 229 polling stations, with 666 polling stations, of which 344 were male and 322 were female voters. The total number of registered voters is 292,687, including 155,104 males and 137,583 females. According to reports, the turnout rate is satisfactory.
On Wednesday, the voting ended peacefully with almost no incidents, despite reports that PML-N and PTI workers had a verbal duel at the polling station of Jamali Balochan Girls’ High School.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) quickly dispatched a deputy police chief to deal with the situation, and said in a statement: “The polling station has not reported any adverse security situation.” It added that voting will continue at the polling station.
