The TV anchor and PTI leader from Karachi Amir Ryaquit Hussein said that Prime Minister Imran Khan rejected his resignation because he could not help the voters.
“After a long meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan my four-page resignation was rejected. I opened my heart told the prime minister everything. The prime minister hailed my efforts for raising my voice for Karachi’s issues and said thinking about the public was the role of an elected leader,” he said on Twitter.
Earlier in the day, Hussein posted on social media that he was on his way to the Prime Minister’s office to submit his resignation.
Hussein won the NA-245 PTI ticket in the 2018 election. He had previously hinted at his resignation on the grounds that he could not provide his voters with the respite from Karachi’s frequent power outages.
“I confess that I am a helpless MNA of Karachi. I am unable to provide electricity to the people of my city. I cannot see the people of my city suffer. I will ask the prime minister for time and submit my resignation,” the former MQM member had said.
Karachi has suffered severe power outages in the past few weeks as the federal government and the Sindh government continue to bargain on the city’s power problems and power supplier K-Electric. Despite the minister’s assurance, the city has experienced up to 10 hours of unannounced blackouts.
This is not the first time PTI MNA has become news because of feeling uneasy in the party.
In 2018, a month after the election, there were reports of disagreements between Hussein and PTI, after he expressed anger at the party at the failure to invite him to the Governor’s Palace dinner.
According to reports, Liaquat left the WhatsApp group composed of PTI Sindh leaders.
Before leaving the WhatsApp group, Liaquat has sent a voice note, in which he expressed anger at Secretary Information Shehzada Qureshi and called on him to bring about positive change.
“You will not get the opportunity of winning so many seats. Do not be the reason to lose respect. Hurdles will be created in the future if you continue mistreatment of your own people” Liaquat was quoted as saying in the voice message.
PTI’s Karachi President Shamim Naqvi once said that there was no reason to be frustrated because there was no dinner.
