Manila: On Sunday, a military plane crashed in the southern Philippines. The Chief of Staff of the Army stated that at least 40 people were rescued from a plane carrying 85 people reported by the media.
The Air Force said in a statement that the Philippine Air Force’s C-130 aircraft had an accident when it landed on Jolo Island.
“Rescue efforts are ongoing,” it said.
A picture published by ABS-CBN News on Twitter showed smoke and flames pouring from the broken fuselage.
The AFP news agency said the plane had been carrying 85 people, citing the army chief.
Chirito Sobejana, the head of the armed forces, told reporters that at least 40 people were rescued from the crashed plane and are currently receiving treatment.
