Pakistan has signed three agreements with Malaysia: FM Qureshi

Putrajaya: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said Tuesday that the Prime Ministers of Pakistan and Malaysia have discussed ways to transform a close relationship into a bilateral strategic economic partnership.

The minister said in an interview that the two sides exchanged views on strengthening bilateral cooperation in various areas such as trade, investment, tourism, engineering and defense.

He said that the two countries also signed three agreements during the Prime Minister’s visit to Malaysia. These include extradition treaties between the two countries for extradition of perpetrators and fugitives, and social protection agreements to provide social support to the Pakistani working class in Malaysia.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that Pakistan remittances from Malaysia increased by 35 percent in 2018-19 and that about $ 1.55 billion is being transferred to Pakistan.

He said the two sides also exchanged views on the recent summit in Kuala Lumpur. The prime minister emphasized that Pakistan does not want to divide Muslim countries, but wants to promote economic cooperation between them.
