No deadlock between govt, opposition on CEC appointment matter: Fawad Ch

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry on Thursday has told that there is no deadlock between the government and opposition parties on the matter of appointment of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).

In the media, the minister said the name of the CEC will be completed in two to three days, and even if the current CEC Sardar Ahmed Raza retires, we still have 45 days.

Earlier, Fawad Chaudhry said that the Supreme Court decision to extend Army General Qamar Javed Bajwa was legally invalid.

He said that from a legal point of view there was a big disagreement with Judge Asif Saeed Khosa and other members of the Judge.

“The parliament is an independent body and does not fall under the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court,” he said.

Fawad Chaudhry said that the issue of the mandate of the legislature for the chief of staff of the army requires a simple majority in parliament, while the senate must amend article 255 of the army law.
