Shanghai: Official data released on Sunday showed that on April 11, mainland China reported 99 new coronavirus infections, more than doubling from the previous day, reaching a one-month high because the number of imported cases per day hit a record .
In addition, according to the National Health Commission of China (NHC), on April 11, newly reported asymptomatic coronavirus cases nearly doubled from 34 cases the previous day to 63 cases, highlighting another major source of risk.
Almost all new infections-the most infections per day since March 6-involve travelers from overseas. Of the 99 cases, only two were spread locally.
China’s commercial center, Shanghai, accounts for more than half of import cases. The city’s health committee said on Sunday that the city reported 52 new cases of coronavirus on April 11, all involving Chinese citizens traveling from overseas.
Of the new cases in Shanghai, 51 cases were flown from Russia on the same plane on April 10. The 52nd case involved a Chinese citizen arriving in Shanghai from a trip to Canada.
Northeast China ’s Heilongjiang Province reported 21 new imported cases on April 11, all of which involved Chinese citizens traveling from Russia.
The total number of infections in the country is currently 82,052, while the death toll is 3,339.
