ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Monday said that former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif and former president and Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) chairman Asif Ali Zardari have been granted bail on medical grounds but their cases have not been dismissed.
At the launch ceremony of the Islamabad Information Commission website, she said she would need time to collect the looted money from abroad, and added that searches were ongoing.
Dr. Firdous said the country will continue to defeat extremist ideas through collective efforts.
She praised the efforts and sacrifices of the armed forces, police and other law enforcement agencies to eliminate terrorism.
The Special Assistant said that it was through their joint efforts that peace was restored that Pakistan introduced a clear face to the world.
In response to the launch of the Information Commission website, Dr. Awan said the goal is to provide people, including journalists, with credible and certified information about the priority of an agency or government.
“The information committee has received 220 applications since its establishment last year,” she said. In addition, the 100 were processed by the committee.
