Moscow slams ‘illegitimate’ US claims on Iran sanctions

By

Moscow: The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday condemned the United States’ unilateral declaration of the re-entry of UN sanctions against Iran as “illegal” and “unacceptable”.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement: “By definition, the illegal actions and actions of the United States will not cause international legal consequences to other countries.”

Russia, as Iran’s main ally, accused Washington of performing “dramatic performances” and insisted that US remarks “do not match reality.”

It accused the United States of “trying to force everyone to wear virtual reality goggles” and accepting its version of the incident, adding: “The world is not American computer games.”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Washington’s contempt has “severely hit the authority of the UN Security Council” and has “expressed public contempt for its decisions and the entire international law.”

“This is unacceptable, not only for us, but also for other members of the Security Council.”

“This is unacceptable, and not only for us, but for other members of the Security Council too.”

Russia said it “fully supports” the position of the majority of Security Council members that the US moves are “legally and procedurally null and void.”

Moscow said: “The United States should not aggravate the situation, but should immediately abandon the route of destroying the JCPOA (2015 Nuclear Agreement).”
