Islamabad: Federal Minister of Education Shafqat Mahmood convened a meeting of provincial education ministers on Monday to consider the increase in COVID-19 cases in the country and establish a winter vacation schedule for educational institutions.

According to the detailed information, the meeting originally scheduled to be held on Monday will decide to announce the winter vacation of educational institutions in advance. In addition, the meeting time will be extended as COVID-19 cases increase.

The federal minister said that any educational institution that reports more than two cases of the virus will face closure.

What needs to be mentioned here is that the NCOC decided on Wednesday that the Minister of Education will host the November 16 high-level meeting, which will review the disease situation in academic institutions and make a decision.

The NCOC meeting also recommended winter breaks in schools to prevent the spread of the pandemic.

In addition to the NCOC meeting, due to the increase in smog and Covid-19 cases, the Punjab Provincial Government decided on November 3 to start winter vacation in all schools in the province from the second week of the month.

According to the details, a meeting was held in Lahore to review the situation after the surge in coronavirus cases and decided to close schools and take winter vacation.

The decision to close down schools came under discussion owing to rising COVID-19 cases, which is against the prior decision of the federal authorities on November 05, where it was decided that in an effort to overcome the educational loss of students due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all the provinces decided to slash or not to observe winter vacations in the educational institutions this year.
