Lahore: The Lahore High Court (LHC) will hear a petition filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for the cancellation of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) vice-president Maryam Nawaz s bail in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills and money laundering case today (Monday).
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Saturday (March 13) approached Lahore High Court (LHC) seeking cancellation of Maryam Nawaz s bail in Chaudhry Sugar Mills and money laundering case.
A two member bench of the Lahore High Court will hear the NAB s plea today. The anti-graft watchdog in its petition has argued that Maryam Nawaz is misusing her bail and is issuing statements against state institutions and is also involved in anti-state propaganda.
The complaint further stated that a number of investigations against PML-N leaders are ongoing. But when she was asked to provide records on January 10, 2020, she did not provide any records.
The petitioner stated that NAB summoned Maryam in her personal capacity on August 11, 2020, but instead she used her political power and attacked the office of the anti-corruption janitor.
The NAB, while asking the court to cancel bail of the PML-N, said that she is not cooperating with the watchdog and is trying to build a narrative that national institutions are inactive.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Lahore High Court (LHC) on November 4, 2019 had granted bail to PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz who was arrested in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills (CSM) case.
The two-member bench of the LHC, comprising Justice Ali Baqar Najafi and Justice Sardar Ahmad Naeem, had announced the verdict and ordered her to furnish two surety bonds, each worth Rs10 million, and deposit an additional Rs 70 million and surrender her passport to secure her release.
