Islamabad: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday has heard Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) petition seeking disqualification of former prime minister and newly-elected Senator Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani.
During the hearing on the matter of former premier’s son Ali Haider Gillani’s video scandal, PTI lawyer Barrister Ali Zafar, Parliamentary Leader for Railways Farrukh Habib, member of National Assembly (MNA) Kanwal Shauzab appeared before the commission and recorded their arguments.
Barrister Ali Zafar claimed that during the Senate polls, money and party tickets were manipulated. He told that evidence of the rigging was found the day before the election.
At the same time, ECP members said that PTI lawyers have provided a transcript of the leaked video. Members of Punjab State asked about the people who were provided with money as barristers in the case. Barrister Ali Zafar said that they could not attend meetings, but the court could call them witnesses.
Punjab members said that one person who took bribes and one person who took bribes were both charged.
It is worth mentioning that after the video of Ali Haider Gillani, the son of the former prime minister, went viral on the eve of the polls, PTI filed a petition to stop Yusuf Raza Gillani ( Yousuf Raza Gillani) won the Senate election.
