Karachi: Chinese bus manufacturer Zhongtong has won an order to provide 100 18-meter buses for Karachi’s Green Line and Orange Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project.
The buses will be green and orange and will run on the BRT route. Currently, the Chinese authorities are testing BRT buses for any mechanical and safety issues.
Federal Planning and Development Minister Asad Umar said in a visit to the Weibo website Twitter earlier this month that the prototype bus for the Karachi Green Line Rapid Transit (BRT) program has been manufactured in China.
He said that the Green Line BRT project will be put into operation at the end of August.
It is worth noting that Karachi’s Green Line BRT project has an intersection with a total length of 24 kilometers, including an elevated 12.7 kilometers, a slope of 10.9 kilometers, an underground 422 meters, and 25 stations.
The second stage public corridor from Gurumandir to the 2.5 km long municipal park has two underground passages on M.A Jinnah Road.
Numaish is also building a state-of-the-art underground bus terminal with parking facilities and a commercial mezzanine.
The first phase of construction work began in 2016.
