Karachi chemical factory fire: Owner, manager booked after blaze kills 16 labourers

KARACHI: A case has been registered against the owner, manager, supervisors and watchman of the chemical factory that caught fire a day earlier, killing 16 labourers in Karachi.

Factory owner Ali Mehta, manager Imran Zaidi, two supervisors Zafar and Rehan and watchman Syed Zarin have been named in the FIR registered at the Korangi Industrial Area police station.

The case has been registered under Article 34 and Article 322 of the Worker’s Death.

According to FIR, there is no emergency exit in the unfortunate event and there is only one way to leave the facility.

FIR stated that there is no alarm system in the factory, and the janitor is required to open the lock. FIR said the building was constructed in such a way that no one can go out in an emergency.

So far, no one nominated in FIR has been arrested.

A day ago, a fatal fire broke out in a factory in the Korangi Industrial Zone in Mehran Town, Karachi, killing 16 workers and raising questions about industrial safety.
