Islamabad Mayor Sheikh Anser Aziz moves court against his suspension

Islamabad: Islamabad Mayor Sheikh Ansel Aziz challenged the suspension of Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday.

Sheikh Anser Aziz has petitioned the Supreme Court of Islamabad to challenge his suspension to the federal government.

In the court’s request, the mayor of Islamabad requested that the decision of the Ministry of the Interior be suspended and returned to the position of mayor.

Aziz was charged with corruption in an intercity bus terminal project.

The federal government suspended the election of Anser Aziz’s first elected mayor, Isseraba, for 90 days on Sunday due to corruption.

The Local Government Committee (LGC) recommended that Sheikh Anser Aziz be suspended for abuse of power.

The important LGC meeting took place here under the auspices of MNA Ali Nawaz Awan.

At the meeting, Chief Metropolitan Officer Syeda Shafaq proposed a corruption reference of Rs 40 million involving intercity transport stations aimed at the mayor of Islamabad.

After the commission members’ voting, chairman Ali Nawaz Awan recommended the suspension of the Aziz to the interior ministry.
