Islamabad: The opposition coalition Pakistani Democracy Movement (PDM) has decided to send JUI-F candidate as Vice-Chairman of the Senate, while Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) will assume the position of leader of the opposition party in the upper house of parliament.
A meeting of steering committee was held under the chair of former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi at his residence. The meeting deliberated on names of candidates for the elections; however an official announcement will be made by PDM head Maulana Fazl-ur Rehman.
Earlier, PDM nominated newly elected Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) Senator Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani as joint candidate in the forthcoming Senate chairman election.
PDM chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman announced Gilani’s candidature for the Senate chairman election after a meeting in Islamabad attended by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz and others members of the alliance.
Asif Ali Zardari, co-chairman of PML-N Supreme and PPP, delivered a speech at the gathering via a video link.
