Islamabad: The government has offered the party the post of Vice-Chairman of the Senate in a bid to win the support of Jamiat Ulema e Islam Fazr (JUI-F) in the upcoming election for the highest position in the Senate on Tuesday. .
According to the details, Federal Defense Minister Pervaiz Khattak appointed JUI-F’s Abdul Ghafoor Haideri as the deputy chairman of the Senate.
Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, whose party is member of opposition alliance Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), said that he cannot predict who will become Senate Chairman on March 12 nor has he been informed about PDM’s decision about candidates for the top slots of Senate.
On the other hand, PDM has decided to field JUI-F candidate for slot of Senate Deputy Chairman while Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) will get post of Opposition leader in the upper house of parliament.
The steering committee meeting was held at the residence of former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi. The meeting reviewed the names of election candidates; however, Maulana Fazl-ur Rehman, the head of PDM, will make an official announcement.
