Islamabad: In principle, the federal government has decided to resume train services nationwide from Wednesday.
The source said the high-level meeting in this regard will be held in Islamabad at 3:00 pm today (Monday). Prime Minister Imran Khan will preside over the meeting.
The meeting chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan will finally approve the restoration of train services.
The source also informed that the Ministry of Railways will propose SOPs related to railway train services during the meeting. The meeting will review the coronavirus situation in the country.
Federal Railway Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed will make recommendations regarding the opening of train services. The source also revealed that while reopening the train service, it will also consider the proposal to open the bus service.
Federal Railway Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed said earlier on Sunday that he was a subordinate of Prime Minister Imran Khan, not a subordinate of each province.
The minister said at a news conference that the trains will resume after the Karachi track is opened. He added that the railway does not belong to Punjab, but Pakistan.
Sheikh Rasheed further stated that the decision to restore railway services will be made until Tuesday (May 19). He promised that if we were not allowed to restart the train operation, the payment would be refunded.
The minister said that train operations will fully implement standard operating procedures (SOPs). He said that the railway authorities are fully prepared to operate the train.
