Los Angeles: The World Health Organization warned on Wednesday that the global coronavirus pandemic is accelerating as the severely affected United States closes bars and beaches before the Independence Day holiday.
According to WHO’s data, the infection rate has reached the highest level in the world in the past week. Chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that the new cases “exceed more than 160,000 cases a day”.
The severe milestone occurred when the EU secured Russia, Brazil and the United States from its final list of countries safe enough to allow residents to enter their borders.
As the number of new cases of COVID-19 in the United States has surged to more than 40,000 per day, several states in the United States conducted 14-day quarantine on out-of-state passengers during the celebration on Saturday, July 4.
California has suspended indoor dining in restaurants in Los Angeles and several counties, while New York canceled plans to allow restaurants to accommodate customers in its interior starting next week.
