Future of Pakistan is tied to industrial development: PM Imran

FAISALABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan said Friday that China has lifted the poor out of poverty within 30 years, which is unprecedented in world history.

He spoke Friday after laying the foundation stone for Alama Iqbal Industrial City in Faisalabad, praising China’s development model and saying that Chinese investors and entrepreneurs would like to invest in different parts of the country.

He said Chinese companies are also willing to transfer key technologies to Pakistan, adding that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a golden opportunity for the development of the country.

Imran Khan said an increased export of industrialization was the key to eradicating poverty in the country, and added that special economic zones were an important step toward CPEC.

He said that industrialization was the main source of jobs in the country and that the process of industrialization in Pakistan in the 1960s was very fast. Unfortunately, this momentum was lost due to the policies that were adopted in the 1970s.

“The future of Pakistan is tied to industrial development, but the wheels of industrial development no longer work against capitalism,” the prime minister said. He added that it would be difficult to provide employment for young people if we did not switch to industrial development.

He stressed the need to change the national perception of industrialization, and said that making money and creating wealth is not a bad thing for society. He said that Pakistan must also increase its agricultural productivity to get the best out of favorable land and climate. He said that tourism is another sector with great potential in the country and should be exploited.

The prime minister stressed the need to provide technical skills and education to the country’s youth to increase their employability.

Imran Khan thanked the Punjab government for speeding up work in Faisalabad Alama Iqbal Industrial City. He said that this would be an important step forward for us. He said that the goals of the special economic zones of our term are an important part of the PTI government’s vision. He said he shared his vision and wanted to change Pakistan by reviving the medina model of the weaker segments of society.

He said the state of Medina under the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was the world’s first exemplary welfare state because it promoted justice and compassion.
