Islamabad: Minister of Foreign Affairs Shah Mahmood Qureshi urged diplomats to be innovative and to shape themselves according to the requirements of modern diplomacy in order to achieve their goals effectively.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony of the diplomacy course held at the Diplomatic Service Academy in Islamabad on Wednesday, he said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has carried out a series of reforms and has now provided more openness to policy making. He said that we are interacting with all sectors of society, including think tanks, to gain new perspectives.
But he said that foreign policy must be led by diplomats, while at the same time accommodating the opinions of different stakeholders.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs said that our diplomats need to have more expressive and effective team members who need to use them out of the box and achieve results. He said that we are using images, graphics and videos to better communicate with a wide range of audiences. He said that special teams including crisis management and Kashmir teams have been established to provide better results.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized that improving the civil service is essential to providing good governance. He said that political leaders put forward their ideas and policies, and civil servants must implement these ideas and policies. He said that we hope that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will become such an institution that is strong enough to give the country the leadership skills it needs.
