Foreign Secretary Shah Mehmood Qureshi talked with British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab on the phone on Tuesday to discuss the joint efforts of the two countries in combating coronavirus.
FM Qureshi congratulated British Prime Minister Boris Johnson for recovering from the coronavirus and subsequently discharged after receiving treatment for the virus.
Pakistan ’s foreign minister said Pakistan has sent back more than 7,500 British people on special flights and will repatriate others in the next few days.
Rab thanked the Pakistani government for repatriating the British and asked for approval for further charter flights to bring British citizens back to the UK.
FM Qureshi said that the pandemic does pose a global challenge, but developing countries face difficulties in responding to coronaviruses.
To advise Prime Minister Imran Khan on the debt obligations of developing countries, he asked his colleagues to discuss the proposal at the upcoming G20 summit.
The British Foreign Secretary welcomed the proposal.
Both foreign ministers agreed to continue consultations to effectively respond to the coronavirus crisis.
