Islamabad: Federal Minister of Education Shafqat Mehmood said on Friday that the final decision to reopen educational institutions across the country from September 15 will be made in a follow-up meeting on September 7.
At a press conference, Shafqat Mehmood asked the Ministry of Health to prepare standard operating procedures (SOPs) for educational institutions to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
He added that work is under way to implement a unified education system in the country.
The minister earlier stated that by ensuring strict implementation of the SOP, educational institutions are allowed to open their administrative offices and teaching departments.
He said that in areas with low Internet coverage, students face huge difficulties in online classrooms.
In March 2020, due to the coronavirus outbreak, the Pakistani government closed all schools, colleges and universities.
Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood said on Twitter that the decision was made at a meeting of the National Security Council, which was chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan in Islamabad.
