ISLAMABAD: A subcommittee of federal cabinet – headed by Law Minister Farogh Naseem – is on Tuesday deliberating on removal of former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif’s name from the Exit Control List (ECL).
Based on the details, the subcommittee prepares its recommendations for this session and forwards them to the federal cabinet, which will take a final decision under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
It is understood that notifications of relevant subcommittee meetings have been sent to all parties, including the National Assembly opposition leaders and PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif, the Punjab Health Minister and the Medical Council to ensure ensure that they have the necessary file.
During the meeting, PML-N leader Ataullah Tarar, on behalf of party chairman Shehbaz Sharif, submitted a request to remove the name of Nawaz Sharif from the ECL.
Earlier Monday, the National Accountability Office (NAB) stated that the government itself should consider excluding the name of Ewax Sharif from the ECL. The anti-transplant monitoring agency sent the matter back to the Ministry of the Interior after sending the medical report from the PML-N top leader to NAB.
Nawaz Sharif plans to fly to the UK with Qatar Airways QR629 yesterday. However, because the authorities did not remove his name from the ECL, his ticket was canceled.
