Islamabad: The Federal Cabinet approved a summary by the Ministry of the Interior on Thursday calling for the prohibition of Pakistan’s Tehreek-e-Labaik (TLP) under the anti-terrorism law.
A few days after violent clashes in which at least two policemen were killed across the country, Prime Minister Imran Khan has approved a summary of the ban on TLP.
Earlier, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed announced the government’s decision to ban Tehreek-e-Labbaik at the request of the Punjab government.
He said that due to violent protests, two policemen were difficult to police and 340 people were injured. The party’s workers also tried to take some police officers as hostages in order to force the government to accept their demands.
To a question, the minister said that he had never been with TLP and had never met Khadim Hussain Rizvi. “I had stopped the Muslim League from making amendments in the assembly,” he said.
