Federal cabinet abolishes secret balloting in Senate elections

By

Islamabad: In an important development, the Federal Cabinet on Saturday approved the abolition of secret voting in the Senate election.

A source familiar with the matter informed that the decisive vote will have information about voters and selected candidates. The proposal to “raise hands” for elections has been rejected.

According to a draft amendment to be submitted to Parliament in a few days, the Senate election will be conducted by a single, transferable public vote.

New rules were introduced to stop the sale of votes.
