Islamabad: Maulana Fazlur Rehman, head of Pakistani Democracy Movement (PDM) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F), held a press conference with PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
He said that during the meeting, Nawaz Sharif, Asif Ali Zardari and Akhtar Mengal attended the meeting through video links. And introduced their respective positions. He also announced that the PDM steering committee will meet tomorrow to determine the date of the Long March for the movement.
He further stated that the timetable for national demonstrations, shutter closures and wheel strikes will be decided at the meeting tomorrow.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman went on to say that by December 31, all members of the national and provincial assemblies will resign to their party leaders. He said that the Lahore rally on December 13 is historic and will be the final nail in the government’s coffin. He added that if anyone tried to disrupt the rally, it would be worse than Multan.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman rejected the government’s invitation to negotiate. He said that the government is struggling and only needs a final push. He said that today, the fake prime minister offered to have a dialogue, but he is not worthy of any dialogue.
The person in charge of PDM said that whether voters stand with the government or not, the movement runs counter to the entire system, and those who manipulate elections should now consider the consequences.
Earlier in the meeting, Maulana Fazlur Rehman proposed to launch Jail Bharo Tehreek [filling jails movement]. According to sources, Fazlur Rehman suggested that if any of the PDM leaders or key leaders are arrested, the option of Jail Bharo Tehreek should be considered, adding that all parties should prepare their workers in this regard.
The person in charge of PDM said that in the case of arrest, a protest strategy and the closure of national highways should also be adopted.
The source also said that the meeting discussed the concerns of PDM leaders about the march to Islamabad at the beginning of the new year.
It is also suggested that the resignation was proposed after the Long March and that this option should be used in time.
