Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has submitted a timetable for the election of local bodies of the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP).
In its reply to the Supreme Court, the Election Commission stated that the local government’s opinion poll will be held in Punjab on July 20, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the state assembly will be held on April 8. election.
The committee further stated that the decision on the election dates for Sindh and Balochistan will be made on February 11.
Earlier last Thursday, the Supreme Court asked the Election Commission to provide a comprehensive response to the LG poll within a week.
The court also ordered the provinces to provide a response within a week. Judge Qazi Faez Isa pointed to Sikander Sultan Raja, the chief election commissioner who appeared in court with the four members of the committee, and pointed out that all institutions in the country must Assist and cooperate with ECP during elections.
At the same hearing, CEC stated in court that the dissolution of Punjab’s local agencies was an unconstitutional move. Justice Qazi Faez Isa asked about the lawsuit against provincial authorities.
