Islamabad: At today’s meeting, the ECC approved the Prime Minister’s Economic Contingency Plan, chaired by Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, the Prime Minister’s Finance and Income Adviser. To tackle the coronavirus pandemic, economic packages totaling more than 1.2 trillion rupees have been approved.
The ECC meeting allocated Rs. 200 crore for day wage workers, Rs. 100 crore for export and industrial sectors, Rs. 100 crore for SMEs and agriculture, and Rs. 50 crore for utilities.
Rs. 280 crore was approved for state-level wheat purchases, which costs Rs. 100 crore to 12 million needy families, and Rs. 70 crore for price reductions for petroleum products.
In addition, Rs 110 crore in electricity and gas bills will be provided, Rs 100 crore in emergency relief financing and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has approved the release of Rs 25 cr.
