Dual nationality case: ECP hears pleas seeking Faisal Vawda’s disqualification

Islamabad: The Pakistan Election Commission (ECP) held a hearing on Monday to request the disqualification of Federal Minister of Water and Electricity Faisal Vada in a dual nationality case.

During the proceedings, no one from Faisal Vada appeared before the National Defense Committee. The committee warned that if no one represented the Federal Minister at the next hearing, unilateral procedures would be carried out.

An investigation report revealed that Faisal Vawda swore to the ECP that he did not have any foreign nationality, and thus perjured.

Vawda had a US passport when submitting the nomination document on June 11, 2018. Even when the review of the nomination document is completed, the Secretary is still a US national.

On January 17, the Lahore District Court heard a request to register a case against Vawda and direct it to a talk show on a private news channel.

In the petition, the plaintiff said that Faisal Vawda insulted the state agency through the boots on the talk show. He added that this move by the Federal Minister has destroyed the image of prestigious institutions.
