Karachi: The National Institute of Virology at Karachi University said on Wednesday that the delta change of the new coronavirus that first appeared in India represented 100% of cases in the metropolis.
Dr. Iqbal Chaudhry, director of the KU International Center for Chemistry and Biological Sciences, said that his institute had genotyped 80 samples a day ago, and the results proved that all cases carried the Delta variant.
Dr. Chowdhury said that because Delta has become a pandemic virus, it is no longer possible to detect “wild-type” coronavirus variants in the city.
Dr. Chaudhry said that the positive rate of the ICCBS laboratory was 19-20%, while federal health officials stated that the infection rate in Karachi had risen to 16.46%.
Federal health officials stated that 8,464 tests were conducted in the port city in the past 24 hours, of which 1,393 tested positive, bringing the infection rate to 16.46%.
“The coronavirus positivity ratio is being artificially dropped from 25% to 16% by doing unnecessary tests,” medical experts said.
Experts said Health Secretary Sindh Kazim Jatoi has given targets to district health officers to “test healthy people” as through it, “one can easily bring down the infection rate”.
