MOHMAND: The death toll from the tragic incident of a rockslide in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Mohmand district reached 19 after seven more bodies were retrieved from under the rubble.
According to television reports, in the rescue operation so far, the bodies of seven workers working in the marble mine in remote areas of KP have been evacuated. The rescue operation restarted earlier today.
District police officer Mohmand Tariq Habib said that there may be 15 to 20 people trapped under the debris, adding that the rescue operation had already started at around 02 am due to darkness.
Heavy machinery and manpower were sent to the area to assist in rescue operations.
On Monday, six mines on Mount Ziaratgar collapsed, killing 12 miners and injuring many others.
Deputy Commissioner Iftikhar Alam has stated that he is concerned that the number of casualties caused by the collapse of the mine will increase. The Provincial Disaster Management Bureau (PDMA) has been requested to provide heavy machinery for rescue.
