China’s Foreign Ministry said Chinese President Xi Jinping told US President Donald Trump by phone on Friday that he hoped the United States would take substantial measures to improve bilateral relations.
Xi Jinping also told Trump that cooperation between the two countries is the only way to go, and according to a statement from the Chinese foreign ministry, China is willing to support the United States against the corona virus.
The call comes because Beijing and Washington have engaged in a long-running battle on several issues, including a coronavirus epidemic that emerged in China late last year and has spread worldwide.
Trump and other senior US officials have accused China of lacking transparency about the virus, which has killed more than 24,000 people worldwide and angered China.
Xi Jinping reiterated during a conference call to Trump that China is open and transparent about the epidemic that has infected more than 80,000 people in China.
Xi Jinping supported the United States, which now has more coronavirus infections than China. Trump said on Twitter that he and Xi Jinping discussed the “corona virus outbreak” in “very detailed” detail.
