Ireland rejects Facebook bid to block regulatory data probe

1.3 billion fake accounts taken down from Oct to Dec: Facebook


Facebook said on Monday that as many as 1.3 billion fake accounts were taken down between October and December last year, adding that more than 35,000 people on the platform were dedicated to resolving misinformation.

The company said in its blog that the company also deleted more than 12 million pieces of content related to COVID-19 and vaccines, which were flagged as misinformation by global health experts.

During the pandemic, false claims and conspiracies about the coronavirus vaccine have flooded social media platforms including Facebook and Twitter.

Before the U.S. House of Representatives Energy and Commerce Committee inspected how technology platforms, including Facebook, deal with misinformation, Facebook disclosed data on misinformation.
