Islamabad: Asif Ali Zardari, former president and co-chair of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), will appear today (Monday) at the Toshakana Accountability Court in Islamabad.
The PPP held a consultation meeting in Islamabad on Sunday night to develop a strategy for accountability before Asif Zardari appeared in court. PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Co-Chair Asif Ali Zardari presided over the meeting.
Senior members of the PPP and the party’s legal team attended the meeting. The legal team briefly introduced Bilawal Bhutto and Asif Zardari to the NAB case.
The meeting instructed senior members of the People’s Lawyers Forum and the PPP to accompany the former president to appear before the Accountability Court. However, after the coronavirus epidemic, public-private partners were barred from participating in court proceedings.
On the other hand, Chief Commissioner Islamabad has ordered foolproof security of Accountability Court and NAB offices. The service road outside the Accountability Court will remain closed for traffic.
The security of Accountability Court and NAB offices has been beefed up and entry of unauthorized persons has been banned. Over 1000 police officials will be deployed for security of the accountability court.
